Bedroom month at AT coincides with my recent adventures in purchasing a bed. I just bought a mattress, and I'm about to open dialogue with an Amish joinery nearby to have a platform bed custom made. I am very new to the concept of a platform bed, and very new to custom furniture. I have been doing online research for months, but still not sure.

Are there any questions that are important to ask when having a bed designed? Is bartering on the price (all done through email) allowed for such a thing?

I've been thinking about making my own platform bed because I can't find what I want without spending thousands. One issue that I've thought of is mattress ventilation. Some models that I've seen have slats or mesh in the middle to let the mattress breathe. I think some mattress companies require something like this for their warranty but I'm not sure.

I'm really curious how you make out getting one commissioned and would love if you could pass along the furniture maker and let me know how your negotiations go.

Has anyone every purchased furniture from clubfurniture.com? I'm loving the style and price of their Cosmopolitan sectional, but was wondering if the AT community had any experience with their quality??
