I would love to have an AT'er as my new neighbor!!

The apartment next door to mine is for sale (http://www.rubloff.com/search/details.html?ulb=true&id=6290916).

I have no vested interest other than getting a new (and hopefully nicer and quieter) neighbor, soon.

If you are in the market for a loft, please check this one out.

Kathryn, that is an amazing space. Of course, your place is also amazing. My wife and I are moving to Chicago in March and would love a place like this. However, we're gonna try renting for a while before making that type of commitment!! Good wishes for a new quieter neighbor!

Dave H,

It might be worthwhile to contact the realtor and mention your interest in renting. The last unit in our building was on the market for well over a year (a slightly different story - the unit was a lot larger and more $$) but the point is, my neighbor may very well consider a renter because this is not his primary residence.

Good luck on your move to Chicago!

Point taken, Kathryn.

Since this is color month I would like to provide a link to something very colorful. A few months ago I travelled to Philadelphia to take a mosaic class with Isaiah Zagar. I had a wonderful time and the public mosaic Isaiah and the class created was full of color. Here is my photo album from the trip:

Philly Mosaic

I then came home and made my own mosaic using his method. It looks quite nice hanging on the wall in my current apartment. The mosaic has mirror in it, so it reflects whatever is nearby. If I have a red shirt on when walking by, the mosaic takes on a red hue. Very cool:

Wondering to self:

Hmm, I wonder if I could get $499,000 for a kidney on the black market...

Julian,

I think it will certainly go for a lot less than that!

Be my neighbor!!!

I've begun recruiting my NYC peeps to Chicago. I have at least 3 maybes, and one of those could definitely afford this loft so I'm passing it on.

Are you guys going to CB2 on Thursday?

does anyone know when the next cure is supposed to start? my apt is in desperate need of some help.

also, what's the consensus on target furniture? i love what they're doing with the designers but seems like the quality is crap. anyone have comments? i look at the displays but knowing that they're getting manhandled by the hordes makes me unsure as to their staying power.

I am planning to be there Thursday and will be happy to try and answer any questions about the unit that is for sale in my unit!

posted by Kathryn on 2006-10-03 11:10:16

yeah, i meant the unit that is for sale in my building...

Kathryn, you should just buy it and be the landlord so you can control who lives there! Or knock down the wall and make a mega jumbo super loft.

Oh, I have definitely considered this option! If I just had the money...

What I would really like to do is turn the place into a co-op; or at least have co-op like bylaws to enforce more neighborly behavior!

Wow that place is PERFECT!

(I will bookmark it for 3-5 years from now when i could possibly consider buying a place ha!)

on a side note:

I wanted to buy this poster hanging thing for some prints I finally received from Chiasso and it seems they no longert have them....

maybe someone will know the name of the product so i can google it or somewhere online i could find it:

it was basically two brushed metal tubes that a poster slid into on each end and then hung up...there was nothing framing the sides, just the top and bottom...it was designed by a man with a scandinavian sounding name. it was available in several different lengths.

thanks!

So, I need an area rug. And I really, really love the Interface Flor Mad Plaider design http://www.florcatalog.com/service/flor/shop_detail.html?mv_arg=P001302500%2dP00023_02
but it's too expensive. But I haven't found anything else that I like as well that I can afford.
Has anybody seen something similar in a lower price range?
Thanks!

Flor, while a neat product is simply way over priced. $30 a tile is stupid expensive.

This, while not exactly the pattern you like is similar and a hellva lot cheaper...

Hey Chicagoans -

I'm considering moving to Chicago. It's probably not for at least a year, but it's in the interest of possibly going to school at Columbia College, which I understand to be near 'the loop' ?

I've been to the airport all of 4 times, adn the city all of 3.

What I'd like to know is how is the pricing for apartments, what's the job market like, and what are good neighborhoods to look at that would be close enough to Columbia so I could take public transportation or get a scooter and drive that safely....

And what do you love about chicago? I'm open to the idea, but my husband needs a MAJOR sales pitch to consider it.

rachel-

i don't know where you live now so it's hard to know what you would be comparing the city to.

columbia college is mostly off the red line, which gives you a lot of great neighborhoods to choose from. the area off the roosevelt red line stop where columbia college is located is becoming a really livable area itself with a new jewel/osco and target.

one of the best things about chicago is that it has a neighborhood to fit pretty much anything you are looking for, and they are all distinct and different. off the red line, i personally really like the neighborhood edgewater, which is just south of rogers park.

Thanks Rebecca, I'll check out all those links!

I'm currently in Denver, but I've lived in Detroit, and I've spent a lot of time in NYC (beyond the hoteling experience) and I *love* a city. :) I think I've got a pretty good understanding of the Chicago winter, too, due to growing up in Michigan (on Lake Huron).

Thanks for everything!
