I'm interested in CB2's Lubi daybed. Has anyone sat on it--or better yet, stretched out on it when it's unfolded into a bed? What's the upholstery like? Thanks!

Does anyone know whether, if I affix paper to painted wood using spray-mount, the paper will stick long-term? Is there another fixative I should use?
Thanks,
Leah

leah, If you want the strongest bond, spray both the wood surface and the paper = twice the sticky, twice the hold! For long term you might want to seal over it with a clear sealer. I'd talk to someone at Pearl Art supply or similar to get a good recommendation of one that would work for your specific situation and won't yellow over time.
Let's see the photo when you're finished!

Leah,
I find spray-mount always lets me down in the long run. Edges start peeling and the paper inevitably starts bubbling up when the humidity levels go up in summer (though perhaps it's dryer in Chicago?). I'm curious about other fixatives too.

Hi,
I have a wood dining table that has a crack that extends across the width of the table. The crack is really deep and while the table doesn't seem to be in danger of breaking in two--yet--I'd like to have it fixed asap. Is there a way I can do this myself or do I need professional help? If I can diy it, any tips on how and what products to use? If I need a professional, any recommendations?
Thanks!

What's the proper method for cleaning shag rugs. The pile is around 2.5 inches and my rug is white.
I was thinking that a vacuum hose would be the answer, but I recently saw this "Shag Rake" and was intrigued. Are there any rug experts out there?

Leah-
Spray mount will indeed let you down. What kind of wood? Waht kind of paper? Where is this going to reside?
Tennille-
No you cannot fix it yourself unless you are a woodworker. You will need to insert butterflies (bow-tie shaped inserst) at the split to prevent further sepperation. They must be hardwood and to do properly you will need a few tools. You might contact Lil Street, Webber Furniture Repair, or any of the local Colleges for the name of a woodworker who can do this.
The Black & Asian Bandit-
Take the rug outside and beat the living hell out of it. A vaccuum will suck up the rug, eat all the shag and then clog. A rake is stupid and a waste of money. If you just need to get the accumulated dirt etc out of it just whack and shake it out. If it's dirty...you can wash it. Now provided it's small you can put it in a washing machine or you bathtub asn do it. If it's larger take it out to your yard and go at it with a hose, mild detergent and scrub brush. If you have no yard, take it to a self-wash car wash and use their facilities. If you have money take it to Northcenter Rug Cleaners and let them do it!!

I'm planning to get a thin piece of wood and paint it, then stick the heavyweight photo paper on it. What about extra-strength spray adhesive (not the spray-mount brand specifically)?
Another option is to use gator board.

I am looking for a coffee table at a decent price. There's one (Click my name to see) that caught my eye at Room & Board, but I can't quite afford their price tag.
I've window shopped through Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, Roy's, CB2, & West Elm. I'm staying away from Ikea since I'm trying to own more quality furniture. Would anyone know of local stores that are worth checking out? Might there also be carpenters in chicago that do custom work?
Please help!

nm,
Regarding a Custom Coffee Table:
There are a lot of Furniture Designers/ makers in Chicago.
If you look at "Chicago Home" Magazine- they have a listing of quite a few of my "mates" (as they say in Australia)- and if you give me an idea of your budget;I can steer you towards a few of them. One NOTE: don't expext the price of a custom/Hand Made/one-of-a-Kind item to be comprable to anything store bought...it's just not possible.

I have an open pendant lamp hanging over my dining table. Which is a better bulb in it - a half-mirror or half-silver? And then where can I buy one in the Chicago area - downtown or North Shore? (click on my name to see an online source for the bulbs) Thanks!
