I was hoping that some readers would be able to help with a problem we have with our kitchen cabinets. The knobs that are on them currently are quite large; we just bought new ones at IKEA to replace them. Unfortunately, when we removed the old knobs, there was a marked color difference between where the old knobs were and the rest of the cabinet. Of course, the IKEA knobs are smaller than the old ones and there is a halo effect around the new knobs. Any suggestions about treating faded wood? The cabinets are cherry and have been cleaned thoroughly.

Cherry wood darkens with age. If you put the new knobs on eventually the wood around them will darken, also.
....at least I hope so.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable rug cleaner, preferably in Lakeview (or who will pick up a rug in Lakeview)?
I agree with fuzzball--cherry wood darkens with age and exposure to light. You'll see this if you ever have a new cherry table and leave objects on it in the same place for a while; there will be lighter areas in the shape of the objects when you move them. Once uncovered the areas gradually darken until you can't even tell they were there.

We've used Service Master (330 S Wells; 312-939-0808) and they do pick up, for a $25 fee. I think they're reasonable; we were charged $175 for a 9x12 rug that was waterstained.

Help!
I just set up a flickr account to start posting my renovation progress but I'm missing something. How can I set them up to be viewed by other people? I understand they should be tagged apartmenttherapychicago, newyork, etc. but when I try to search for them I cannot find them. They are also checked as "public." My account has been deemed safe. I'm just stuck. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Flickr says- "We have thousands of people signing up every day on Flickr, which is AWESOME! But it also means that it may take a week or two to review your new account. Please be patient! We'll get to you.
In the meantime, your photos are not completely invisible. You can still share public photos you've uploaded to Flickr by giving people the link to Your Photos page."

when I click on my link it says I have to be signed in to see the photos. I can sign in to see my photos but the idea is for others to see my photos. How can they see them without having a flickr account?

You have to wait for your account to be reviewed.
