My boyfriend & I are furnishing our first just-the-two-of-us apartment (we previously lived with 3 other boys!); we essentially had no furniture of our own aside from our trusty futon, which we're bidding goodbye to this weekend in favor of the Axis sofa bed from Crate & Barrel.

We will be purchasing bedroom furniture in the next month or so & have tentatively picked out the Loop bed from Crate & Barrel but I was wondering how sturdy their beds are? I just want something that lasts for 10ish years & not get squeaky on us (like the metal frame that came with our excellent mattress). Any thoughts? Anywhere else to look for a good bed frame?

I recently(2 weeks) purchased a City Block bed from CB2. There's a little squeak from time to time. I haven't tried to fix it yet, so I can't put all the blame on crate and barrel. Its sloped slightly towards the edges. If I had to do it again, I'd probably go another direction; I'd rate it a C .

I was just in the market myself and had looked at both the Loop and City Block. I ended up going for the very cheap option at Ikea - the Malm in Black-Brown for $179. Other finalist for me was the Room and Board Perspective in raw steel at $599 (very similar to the CB2 city block, but I like the material and lines better on the Room and Board version).

Sorry don't have more experience with the bed, but it seems solid so far - guessing it'll hold up as well as any other engineered wood bed...

I don't like complaining, but I find it really difficult to participate in the Chicago Cure when the posts are so hard to find. The Monday post isn't even listed in the October 1 archive any more! It's really no wonder there are so few comments on any given Cure thread in the Chicago Cure when the posts keep getting hidden in the archives, or disappear completely. At least when it was all One Big Cure as in past cures, the posts could be easily found by clicking on the "Book Blog" on the front New York page.

Can anything be done to address this?

smallcitybeth:
thanks for asking...

The AT:Chicago cure posts can be found in the archives under fall cure-2007.

To make it easier to locate them, we have also started adding a link to that archive to all the cure posts.

The reason that they are sometimes hard to find in the date-based archive is that we move them up, so the date doesn't remain constant - therefore the topic-based archive is a quicker, more accurate way to locate the posts.

Hope that helps!

Anyone have any tips for finding/using an electrician from Craig's list? The one recommended to me by a friend has once called to cancel and once not shown up. I have to replace some track lighting that also needs to be grounded since the old wiring/fixtures weren't.

Let me know what your experiences have been with cl contractors. I know it's hit or miss but I thought I'd ask.

THX!

We bought the "Colette" bed from C&B over a year ago and we think it's great. Never heard a noise from it. Good luck...
