We've just moved to a suburb of Chicago and have finally decided to give away my grandmother's dining room furniture for something modern and simple. Has anyone had experience with CB2's Envelope dining table? Specifically, will the finish hold up well with a very messy two-year-old? We also considered Blu Dot's Strut, but I think something with leaves would be more functional for our space and needs. Suggestions? Thanks!

Anybody know of a furnished 1 or 2bdr apartment available to sublet for June? I have clients coming in for a training session and can't find a hotel room! Alternatively, if anyone has suggestions on finding corporate housing for that time period, please let me know. My email is kw(at)liquidpoint(dot)com

Thanks!

Abbe,
We've bought the CB2 envelope table (dark color) last Fall and like it alot. The leaves make it really flexible (table + 1 leaf works best in our space) and it's a solid table with some nice-looking, albeit cheap, detail. Because our table is dark, smudges and dust show up pretty easily but it cleans up fine. Not sure how it would hold up with a child.

We've received numerous compliments on the table--it looks very sharp and is a great value for the style and quality. (Keep in mind, there is assembly required--you have to attach the legs yourself but it's fairly simple. You'll probably need two people to turn the table over when it's done b/c it's pretty heavy once assembled).

Hope this helps.

Matt

Kathryn,
Did you try the usual suspects (Chicago Reader and craigslist)?

Does someone have a good suggestion for a black/ebony modern credenza type piece for under $2500 (with shipping to Austin Tx). I wanted to get a unit that was 80" x 20" x 28" by USM Haller Systems (need depth to hold stereo components), but even with the piddly 10% professional discount they give it's still $3250 with shipping.

I thought about trying to find a Florence Knoll credenza but they don't seem to come in ebony too often and even a used one would run me more than my $2500 budget (which is way more than I've ever paid for a piece of furniture).

Suggestions? Please help! Here's a link to an image of the USM stuff - saw it in real life at the shop for Mies' Barcelona Pavilion and it was VERY fine.

Try Habitat Corporate Suites. They have a variety of locations. www.HabitatCSN.com

Matt ~
Thanks for the feedback. I made the haul to Ikea today to check out a similar one (Bjursta) and was surprised how the usual Ikea showroom dings showed up on it! It made me hesitant to buy a veneered table, so we may opt for solid wood. The only solid wood ones at Ikea didn't have the great form we like in the Envelope table, though. Next stop CB2 to check out the Envelope...
