10 Uses for Cigar Boxes

8-6-08cigarbox2.JPG

For years, we've used an old cigar box to store cards and loose envelopes. Another one sits next to our sewing machine and holds thread. They're inexpensive, sturdy, and you can find some very cool graphic patterns out there. Click below for 10 other ways to use these versatile boxes...

• Use them to make art (like Christy's collage shown above).
• Use one as a catch-all for change in your entryway.
• In the kitchen, use them to hold recipes.
• Stack a set on a shelf and use them to sort office supplies.
• They make great reusable gift boxes.
• Keep your receipts inside one.
• Use a long cigar box to hide remotes on the coffee table.
• Hide pens and pencils on a desk.
• Stow your phone charger or other cords.
• Use several sets to store a photo collection.

10 ways to use any small box, tray or jar . . . for small things! Endless possibilities for change, paper, pencils! I am so sick of reading this same article every time an AT poster finds a little tray or box they like. God bless him/her for at least saying "entryway" rather than the annoyingly overused "landing strip."

I put a plastic divider from the container store in a large, shallow cigar box and use it to store my earrings. I'm planning to line the bottom with a pretty paper, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Not to pick on this post specifically, but I have also noticed a shift toward posts about cutesy stuff lately. Being a dude, it's a little alienating and seems to focus on one very narrow design aesthetic. All I can think about when I see something like a collage is, "Ah crap, something new to dust."

We put small brackets on a cigar box and hung it on the wall as a shelf. We hide a few things in it, and set lightweight stuff on top of it to display. I think it looks pretty cool.

I'm a big fan of Cigar Box guitars. Great company called Daddy Mojo makes some great looking instruments.

A friend once gifted me a variety of tea, packaged in an old cigar box. I still use the box to store tea bags and other small tea accessories.
