Organizing means compartmentalizing...or at least getting things up off the floor.
The Droog Strap reminds us a bit of those frat boy pranks that involve duct-taping people to walls but we have to admit we're intrigued...

The Strap by Droog is a long strip of silicone, which can be wall-mounted vertically or horizontally, and is taut enough to hold whatever you got to hold. We've seen it clasp onto shoes, plates, magazines, and lots and lots of toys.
We see this product as a good (and fun) temporary storage solution that also happens to look good (sculptural, even) when not in use. It's available at Twig for $24 per piece (in red, white or charcoal).
Is anyone currently using the Strap? What kinds of crazy things can it hold?

And does it bend/ruin shoes with the pressure it takes to hold them? If not, I'd buy one or two. Storing shoes is the bane of my existence. I never find a good solution that doesn't create more mess/room-suck than just throwing them everywhere.

i've seen these at Black Ink in Harvard Square. i just can't get into them for a main space... i frankly find them to be rather gaudy. that said, i think they might be a nice addition to the back of my closet...
i have two clothes rods that go straight back from either side of the closet door, so these could help me utilize a lot of that open wall space in the middle, while hiding the less-than-awesome colors. Could also make for some neat hidden storage under and behind things.

I'd use them at the back of a cupboard too.

They would be better hidden for shoes, I think. If you put shoes in them topside out, the soles would be against the wall, and make marks. If you put shoes them the other way (soles out), that would be really ugly, but it wouldn't matter in a closet.
For holding other things, they might be decorative.

$24 each, though? That second picture up top would cost $200. I don't think I'd bother.

I think they look brilliant. I love anything that can double as a piece of art and a storage unit. I would love to know what the most bizarre or heaviest thing is it can hold. It would be interesting actually to see it used primarily for art and not for storage. Neat!

I wonder how they'd work in a basement or garage or utility closet to hold brooms, mops, gardening, sports equipment...

i think these are a great idea for basement/garage/closet realm... or anywhere you are looking for function/organization over form/aesthetics in the deeper sense.
and i agree that $24 each is kind of silly for big rubber bands.
so with the price tag and lower priority of looks-alone... i'm going to go to the hardware store this weekend and try to figure out a similar setup.

Maybe it is just the mood I'm in, but I can easily picture big brother strapping up his annoying little brother in those things. That would be one way to keep the little guy out of his room.

The people who used to own my house had these in the kids' bedroom. They used the stretchy bands to hold puppets and other random kid stuff. I suppose if you don't mind displaying your clutter on your walls it's okay, but my biggest issue is all the holes left behind. Too much destruction for so little benefit.

They look like bycicle straps, they cost 9 euro/9 usd : ).

anne k - that's actually what the packaging says they were inspired by!

i have them in my hallway and i use 4 of them to hold my hats/my bag/my scarf (i really only always use one) and for that they are great. they come with all hooks/screws/hardware so you probably couldn't save that much if you were to do it myself ( i paid â¬13 per piece). i imagine they wouldn't ruin shoes - but wouldn't the shoes ruin the wall? you can vary the strength they pull things towards the wall by placing them further apart or closer together (according to the instructions they go between 80 and 90 cm in width)
i combined them with something else thats overpriced for being that simple: http://www.scandinaviandesigncenter.com/Products/eur1/Furniture/Storage/4136/Mail holder
but they look great together!

i like that mail holder, Andreas. more money than i'd want to spend on it, but certainly in good taste!

I predict Ikea will have an inexpensive version within a year. This sort of thing is right up their alley..

I've seen this used for the toilet paper at restaurant Amore in Denver.

conceptually they're great, and that's what droog is so good at. but i'm also really into keeping clutter out of the way, and these straps are the antithesis of that.

I'm going to name my band "The Droog Strap."

What happens if you have more than 1 pair of shoes? Do they all fall out?
