Tip for Overwhelmed Organizers: Matching Containers

5-29-08boxes.jpg

How to look super-organized when you're really not? Use sets of matching containers. That's our strategy as we unpack and find things that we're not sure where to put, but we don't want to get rid of. We know, we should sort and declutter and find the proper place for everything, but...

...with the overwhelming amount of things we should be doing in our life right now, those matching containers at least make us feel like we're together. Plus, they look nice and we already had a starter set from our old apartment. The containers shown above are White Stockholm DVD Boxes from the Container Store.

Other than Ikea and the Container Store, what are some other web retailers carrying qualityand well priced office organizing accessories?

kimg924, check www.seejanework.com. the basic office products go on sale quite frequently.

i really want to like the kassett series, but the boxes i've gotten don't line up when you assemble, and the quality is meh.

The Ikea strikt series is less expensive than the Container store and very sturdy--more so than kassett. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/IkeamsSearch?storeId=12&langId=-1&catalogId=11001&searchType=product&pageNumber=-1&orderBy=score&category=%23%7EProducts&query=strikt

The boxes above can be found at Container Store and they are not so terrifically priced when you think they are paper covered. $12 for the large $10 for the small last I checked. It adds up fast when you are kitting out a bookshelf.

I got some white "CD boxes" from Michael's for about $3 each, I used them in our linen closet to hold all our meds etc. Labeled them too (cuts/scratches, allergies, colds/coughs).

Martha Stewart has a craft line at Michaels as well and those boxes are lovely but they're about $17 each http://www.marthastewartcrafts.com/index.php?v=msc_prod_stor_storageboxes

I recently bought some Semikolon magazine boxes to take to the office to make me feel better about my crappy cubicle. I justified the $13 each by admiring the modern colours.

Paperchase makes some very sturdy, plain kraft-paper-covered boxes with black handles--here's the link:

They can be purchased at Borders bookstores in the US ($12.99 for the small box, don't know the price for the large).

You can get matching photo storage boxes at almost any discount store. I've seen them as low at $3.99 on sale.

I have been doing this lately with my home office. I think West Elms are nicely constructed, I buy the ones on sale. Their colors are so seasonal they often have a few colors on sale every few months.
