Problem Solver: Terrace Mates

2007-06-11-balcony.jpgBalcony too small to really use? Maybe not - we ran across these folding tables and chairs and half umbrellas online this weekend. Designed especially for small outside spaces, they fit where regular market umbrellas and outdoor furniture wouldn't.

The umbrella and its stand both feature a flat edge along one side, making it possible to situate the umbrella right up against a wall.

2007-06-11-balcony2.jpgIt is not a permanently fitted awning, so it can be moved and adjusted like a regular umbrella to the optimum spot for shade.

The tables also feature a straight side with a hole to accommodate the umbrella pole. The table top can be folded by means of a gate leg mechanism, thus creating extra space on the balcony when not in use. Chairs also fold, and are available as side or arm chairs.

The style is straightforward outdoor - simple, wooden designs. The market style umbrellas are available in Olefin or Sunbrella fabrics.

Price range: umbrellas from $119., set of 2 chairs from $134.99, and tables from $179.

We found them at Par Pool & Spa.

I just purchased the 7.5' half canopy umbrella for my narrow balcony and it works perfectly! Now we plan to buy the matching furniture set.
