Escapes: Out on the Balcony
Montreal

Wrapping up Escapes Month here at AT, we wanted to share this tiny balcony getaway. Sometimes, even just a small private outdoor space can make for a special escape...

This Montreal apartment's balcony is made into a special escape with a few simple moves: that little candelabra chandelier, a tiny table for two for intimate outdoor dining. We love this elaboration of a pretty standard balcony. Just picture serving up a special dinner straight through the kitchen window.

Jealous!

Of course, it being Montreal, how many months of the year do they actually get to enjoy it...?

trygve: at least six
late april to september (thanks to global warming; t'was not like that when i was growing up 30 some years ago)
we're having the best summer weather so far right now
then it's bundle up, drink plenty, make lots of soup and stews and nothing beats cuddling up to your significant other under a fluffy comforter

paulinet -

you are being generous (i've been in flurries in may), AND counting rain days. my recent two weeks was marked by much rain, thanks, i think, to global warming. several friends complained about the "absence of summer". one canceled their cottage stay and drove to nyc to take advantage of the sun and the relatively stronger canadian dollar.

still, i'm amazed how montrealers truely use their summers and have a city designed to use it...with balconies, retractable store fronts, bike lanes, and outdoor festivals every week....while we take it for granted or ignore it architecturally in much of california. c'est la vie.

The chandelier is my second favorite aspect; the first is the man.
