Floating House by MOS

0610_mos01.jpg

This house connects to its site in an unusual way. It floats on it. That's right, this Ontario house by NYC architects MOS is built on a tiny island in Lake Huron. The house itself actually floats on the water adjacent to the island...

We're intrigued by the ladder leading from the house's deck right down into the water. Imagine spending the summer out there, always within a few steps of a quick dip:

With its glass rails and operable full-height windows, the home's interior is no less connected to its beautiful surroundings:

Lucky the person who owns this property. Not really for the architecture, but for the beauty of this place itself. Of course the idea of a floating house is awesome too!

Clearly they have no hurricanes there! Very nice though... would be a great summer getaway!

Hurricanes? In Canada? No, we don't get hurricanes. I can't imagine that it would winter well, although I'd like to give the builders and designers the benefit of the doubt.

Either way, it's lovely.

@thermal -- it has survived a few winters! I remember seeing it at least 3 years ago (I think it has won a big design award)

Since I live in Florida, with just the right hurricane, I could END UP in Ontario. (LOL)

This is fantastic though. It's one of my favorite AT alternate home styles.
