The building was originally designed in the 1950s in the Rationalist style. A white marble facade contrasts beautifully with the deep green vegetation surrounding it. Inside, alternating mirrored and transparent window panes frame the garden views.

Interior surfaces are covered in black granite, Burmese teak, bleached oak, and travertine. The natural finishes are simple but elegant, and furnishings seem like they would be at home indoors or out. The pool is striking, with glass mosaic tile steps and low-set lights obscured by frosted glass. Although the hotel design is very high end, it offers some lessons about how to use refined materials and basic forms to create a sense of elegance.
