Solar Powered Lanterns: Perfect for Outdoor Parties

lanterns061209.jpgWe've always loved the look of round, colorful lanterns hung in a garden - so festive! This modern version is absolutely perfect for a summer dinner party outdoors, because they can be hung anywhere without bothering with cords or regular batteries, as they are powered by the sun. They collect sunlight during the day...

...and glow for hours at night - up to 6, according to the site where we found them.

They automatically turn on when the darkness falls which is pretty cool - a friend who uses a string of solar powered lights outdoors says that it is part of the fun guessing just when they'll turn on each evening.

They are made from weather resistant nylon, have 2 leds as the light source and come in various shapes and colors. Prices range from $18.95 - 26.95.

Available online at Garden Basket - all info is here.

I have a string of small ones (white chinese lantern style) that I got from Ikea and they're great. They also do larger single ones in more colours.

I wish I had a place to hang these, they give such a soft, nice ambiance to an otherwise blah space.

They also have these on www.Brookstone.com - I love them cause I dont have any outdoor outlets - so much better than running extention cords. So flexible too.

I think these could be really cute if used in clusters for a party. Day to day... not so adorable. My downstairs neighbors have just one hung on our deck. It attracts swarms of bugs at night, which is really gross! Plus, it looks a little silly to have just one.

I bought one of these at Crate and Barrel last summer. The concept is pretty nice, but you definitely have to expect mood lighting rather than, say, a reading lamp.

I have solar powered lanterns but why don't they attract moths?
