Before/After: SpaceMonkeyX's Kitchen

SpaceMonkeyX in St. Louis recently shared his basement makeover with us. In a short five months, he has accomplished not only the basics of basement transformation, but has also made wonderful progress on the kitchen. He's still looking for some final touches (like a new kitchen table and new flooring), but this workload deserves a look. Let's check out some startling BEFORE pics:

AFTER: We love the built-in bookshelves on the ends of the existing cabinets.

If you have any great Before/After pics (and a few words) for us, send them in!

(Great job, SpaceMonkeyX!)

I'm SpaceMonkeyX's fiancee, and we're always open to suggestions for decorating some of those large blank walls!

Just please, no stenciling.

I don't have any suggestions, just wanted to say that all your hard work is very inspiring. It makes me feel lame for putting off all my projects, and I am not even planning a wedding! I love the alcove the most.

Also, you guys are very kind regarding the "before" decor.

the "before" decor looks like it was an "after" of a trading spaces episode!

you guys have done a great job!

as a native st. louisan, i have to ask--in what part do you guys live?

Jennie - Oddly enough, we thought the same thing. It really looked like someone lived there who had too much time on their hands and had the TiVo setup to record every episode of "Trading Spaces."

Erin - We live out in St. Peters, so, technically we're suburbanites, but please don't hold that against us.

interesting you should say so, because my parents just moved out that way though my dad's spent his whole entire life in south county. now when people ask me the same question i posed you, i offer up the same sorta-defensive "i know it's not really..., but..." answer.

the way i see it, nearly every st. louisan is a suburbanite.

I agree - even the people who live downtown could barely consider themselves LIVING in the city when they have to travel on the interstate to buy gas or groceries.

The biggest bummer is the moron who originally placed the stove and fridge next to each other.

Non fergonomic! Energy inefficient! Ugly!

SpaceMonkeyX, Andrea,
Great job. I may steal your bookshelf idea.

Jennie,
The Trading Spaces comment is as hilarious as it is accurate. And it is very accurate.

Where did you get the saddle stools? I wants 'em.

Actually, the saddle stools were picked up for a BARGAIN at Gordman's.
