Best Sellers: Paint by Locale

050506paintbrushes.jpgBack in March, Shop Etc.'s Home section profiled a quick line up of the most common paint choices from Home Depot stores, region by region.

We're wondering if AT readers believe these colors represent their part of the country, and if Ralph Lauren really is the choice for Northerners.

We can't find the exact piece in Shop Etc.'s online archives, but we do have a torn-out magazine page in our hands. Here are the shades (and apologies for making you link over to see them, we are unable to copy the color directly here):

Midwest: Glidden in dark secret (which doesn't appear here because of "subtle variances and inconsistency in computer monitor resolutions." Think almost-black. $15.98/gal. for flat finish and $19.98/gal. for gloss.

Northwest: Ralph Lauren in oatmeal. $23.98/gal. for flat finish and $28.98/gal. for semi-gloss. 050506palette.jpg

Northeast: Ralph Lauren in hunting coat red. $23.98/gal. for flat finish and $28.98/gal. for semi-gloss.

Southwest: Behr Premium Plus in brown teepee. $18.98/gal. for flat finish and $25.98/gal. for high-gloss. (Click "Start Color Smart" and search by name.)

So Chicago, where do you buy your paint and what are your favorites? If you've got some paint jobs coming up, send us your before/after photos!

No surprises in the most popular paint categories.

First I go to Home Depot and pick out color chips, then I phone up JC Licht and ask them to mix the colors using Benjamin Moore Super Spec--easier to work with that what HD offers. I would have loved to use their washable flat, but it's expensive.

My colors are:
Entry - Behr Desert Shadows
BR - Ralph Lauren Racer Pink (minus the white)
BR - Ralph Lauren Aged Mint
LR - Ralph Lauren from the discontinued Greenhouse line, looks like Sage Sweater-Celadon-y
DR - Ralph Lauren Teal Forest
K - Light, light grey which I can't find the name of.
