Benjamin Moore has released their 2009 color forecast called "Colors for Your Home". It's a line of 18 trend colors and according to their experts these hues represent "a craving for simplicity in our lives as we search for refuge from the rough and stormy economy". They add "There’s clearly a trend for homes to be simpler, pared down and offering relief from the pressures and anxieties of the outside world".

1) Dining Room: Black Satin

2) Fireplace Wall: Hodley Red, Dried Mustard & Gray

3) Bathroom: Blue Nose, Blushing Red & Bronze Tone

That brown, orange and grey painted fireplace is horrible. Please tell me those horrible circa 1975 colours are not making a comeback... the only thing missing is avocado green.

I'm in love with that black dining room and the 4th and 5th rooms...

...but #2 ain't so hot (Who would paint a brick fireplace Brick Red?) and #3 is pretty awful.

Eek, I don't know. This feels like a major miss, Benjamin Moore. In particular that striped bathroom is nasty.

How is that bathroom simple or pared down? It is the depiction of pressure and anxiety.

We just used brookside moss as an accent color on a wall in the bedroom and on the fireplace, and I love it. (It's two shades up from their avocado and, at least in our rooms, doesn't really read 1970s, or retro.)

How is black a refuge from the rough and stormy economy? I can't imagine a more depressing room, especially paired with those chartreusy curtains. Five no's from me. Shame, because the furnishings, window and the fireplace in room 2 are spectacular but the colors are heinous.

Dried Mustard = worst paint-color name ever.

Yuck! We just bought a house and had to repaint everything because it was in all the "trendy" shades of diarrhoea and puke.

The first 4 seem to be there to make you feel RELIEF when you see #5!

If I didn't know (?) that BM was a great paint company, I sure wouldn't be able to guess from these rooms (#5 excepted).

Oops.

I love the Black Satin in both the living room and dining room pics. I can see it being soothing, too. It's less austere than bright white, to me.

And hey, my guy likes it too, which is more than most colours I like can say, so I'm rather inspired by this, actually.
