January Jumpstart Inspiration: DIY Projects for the Home

2008-01-10-shannon.jpg

In hopes of inspiring you to join us in doing a January Jumpstart project now to share with us later this month, we pulled photos of successful DIY project "afters" from our House Tours on AT: Chicago. Shannon and Emmett built the bookshelves shown above from old stair treads rescued from a coach house and threaded pipe from Home Depot. They said it only took an afternoon to assemble! More below:

Meg & John's Big City Home: A super simple fireplace DIY - Meg had a piece of glass cut to fit the hearth area and back-painted it with glossy white paint. It looks simply amazing in person.

2008-01-10-doug.jpgDoug's Home for the Holidays: Doug stained this piece of furniture dark to fit in with his current furnishings - it was his Mother's baby furniture.

2008-01-1-danaceiling.jpgDana's Sunny Logan Square Apartment: Dana painted the pressed tin ceiling gold for a totally modern take on a vintage architectural detail.

Thinking about joining us for the January Jumpstart? Details are here.

I made shelving just like that about....15 years ago with a friend in their salon for some retail shelving and it looked and still looks great. And it really was easy...but I love their use of the old stair treads!

Perhaps I am looking the the wrong place or should be patient to see this type of project revealed but I was wondering if Shannon and Emmitt or another resourceful documenter has photos of such a threaded pipe bookshelf project available...?
