Browsing the Maine Cottage website, we spotted a few photos of dining chairs painted in array of colors. We really like the look - with the right chairs, it could be a good way to do something different on a porch or in the dining room...

Although these photos show traditional chairs, we think a multi-colored arrangement would also look good with multi-colored Bertoia Chairs, Eames LCW Chairs, or metal chairs like the Marais.
We did different colored wooden chairs in our DR. I didn't think it was that out of the ordinary but we get LOTS of comments on it.
Photo here, but the DR is almost bare (it was right after we moved in -- notice the painter's tape still on the windows?!)

A great way to resuscitate an otherwise ugly chair. These Windsor-style chairs are nearly always available on Craigslist for next to nothing.

I just bagged a repro dinette set on Kijiji (more popular than Craigslist in Nova Scotia) with all different color chairs -- the owner said she couldn't choose. We are LOVING it!
