In highschool, I asked for a toolbox and drill for Christmas. They've both stayed with me through 7 moves, and I probably use them on a monthly basis.
My old Black & Decker's about ready to conk out, but my toolbox is still going strong (complete with the band stickers I decorated it with many years ago). There are a few basic tools inside that have remained pretty much the same over the years. We're wondering: What do you keep in your toolbox?

In my toolbox
Electric screwdriver (wish I had a drill)
Flat head screwdriver
Phillips head screwdriver
Hammer
Box of screws
Box of nails
Wall hooks
Bike bell I never installed
Tape measure
Pliers
Adjustable wrench
Bike chain oil
Bike tire patch kit
Sharpies
Metal candy tin full of random bits (anchors, washers, leftover Ikea parts)

1. Hammer
2. Screwdrivers of various sizes from eyeglass to electronic parts to honkin' big, some with torx and other nonstandard tips.
3. Pliers
4. Cordless Bosch drill/driver with assorted bits
5. Cordless lithium ion Dremel
6. Shark 8 inch prybar & nail puller
7. Needlenose pliers
8. Medium-sized adjustable wrench
9. Small, inexpensive ratchet set
I can't stress enough how useful it is to have the Dremel and Shark tool on hand.

I had a much bigger one when i lived in TX, but scaled it waaaay back for the move to NYC. Mine consists of
-Hammer 1xsmall, 1xnormal
-pliers
-needle nose pliers
-multi-tool
-3-4 screwdrivers, flathead and philips
-a small level
-glue, nails, nuts & bolts, etc
-2x tape measures
-small variety of tape
-cordless drill with bits
-a couple of paint brushes
There's a little overlap with the various design and craft materials around the house as well, and I have a set of computer specific screwdrivers around somewhere. That's bout it.
