Why Not Paint the Whole Room?

We loved yesterday's good quote from Peter York (perfect for the January Jumpstart). When he mentions painting a Victorian piece white and changing out the handles, we can think of a few times we've done just that. It's a decorating trick that almost always works...and you can apply it to a whole room if you want. Painting a set of mix-matched pieces white (or another color) unifies a room and brings together discordant styles. Bring in an accent color or two on the walls, on the floors, or with accessories. We painted our bedroom dresser ivory with white handles. We added white frames for the photo arrangement and white storage boxes to pull the look together. (We're thinking of painting the hamper white as well.)

works if you paint all the pieces black as well.

but abby, how can we paint them white AND paint them black? ;)

Just kidding. Actually I've done something very much like this--I took the leftover wall paint from various rooms and painted some of the furniture in those rooms. It really turned out very well.
