Finding Paint in "Mimosa"
...or any other of the 3000 Pantone Colors

mimosapaint120408.jpg Yesterday we blogged Pantone's choice for "the" color of 2009, which is Mimosa, known officially (but less poetically) as 14-0848 TPX. We noticed a few readers wondering in the comments about matching the color, so we thought we'd mention the Pantone paint ordering system, available online...

The portion of the Pantone site geared toward paint and interiors offers a simple interface for searching for and ordering paint in exactly any of over 3000 Pantone colors. The paint is formulated by Fine Paints of Europe and is available both online and in stores, with a liter retailing for $40 and the 2.5 liter size at $95.

For what it's worth, where I come from, mimosa flowers are pink and white, and downy-looking. Here's a good photo:

I believe the color is referencing Mimosa the drink... a mixture of orange juice and champagne.

If this is the new hot color, I think I'll pass.

I would just like to say, when my husband and I moved into our new condo in June and I choose this warm yellow for our bedroom walls- I was constantly defending it to the hubby because I knew it would be a hot color! He still isn't thrilled with it, but I love it!

Instead of discussing mimosa again, I was under the impression people were more after how to match the exact color they want from Pantone in another paint brand. I know color is scientific somehow, but I will never understand how people recognize any given named color as the only one they want. I know that any subtle off color just won't do when you get to pinning it down finally, but you didn't even see how it will look in your room. Go a smidge lighter, darker, duller, or brighter. I know you can. It will be fine.

Yes, why get all slavish about it. I can't imagine a cocktail party where one's friends are going to snigger behind their hands because your wall color is another soft yellow--a pathetic 14-0848 TPX wannabe.

I can see it now at the next fashionable Ladies Luncheon:

"She didn't get the real Mimosa...
...Her kitchen is obviously Goldenrod - a cheap knockoff..."
    :-\
