We're entering that last stretch of winter in Chicago where we start to convince ourselves that spring is just around the corner even though we know by experience that it's more than a few weeks away. To sustain the illusion, we're looking into spring scents for the home. More below.

Top: These soy-based Kobe Candles from Sprout Home are clean-burning and good for air quality, unlike petroleum-based candles. They're pricey at $33 each, but they last for a long time and the scent fills the whole room.

We always like the selection of scents at Greer. Right now, we're digging the Mor Cosmetics Fruits of Cornucopia Room Mist ($22), Snow and Graham's Trellis Candle with floral and herbal scents ($23.50), and the Savon de Marseilles Mini Soaps ($1.50 each).

Use lavender sachets in your drawers to keep clothes smelling good. We like the selection of sachet pillows from Etsy Shop lfntextiles (the pillow shown is $18). Or you can make your own with these instructions from Martha Stewart.

Mrs. Meyers has a new limited-edition scent for spring: Rhubarb. A Rhubarb Spring Cleaning Kit contains dish soap, countertop spray, all-purpose cleaner, and window spray for $14.99.
I adore the packaging for those candles... I wish I could just have that and not the candle!

As far as wonderful seasonal scents go, check out Waxman Candles in Lincoln Park (also online at waxmancandles.com). They have an awesome permanent assortment as well as new scents each season and for holidays. Sweetgrass, new mown hay and rain are quite appropriate for spring! Even though I haven't lived in Chicago for 10 years, I won't buy candles anywhere else.

Even though her Division street store isn't open anymore, you can still buy Tatine candles from Margo on her website: www.tatinecandles.com. She makes the loveliest candles! She also opens her Flatiron studio up every few months for some live shopping. You can buy some of her candles as Asrai Garden and Cellar Rat on North avenue too.

What kind of person spends 33 dollars on a candle?

I love the scent of the Alora Room Ambiance (not sure what it's called exactly - but it consists of oil in a bottle with sticks halfway in and halfway out...) in Isola and Bimbi. They were listed on drugstore.com for $80 a pop, so does anyone have any suggestions for other similar, oil-type products that are less expensive?

MirandaJay: I agree!! I just cannot go through with it. Is there a test to prove how much longer the soy candles burn than wax? if its like double the time, it would justify spending the $33.
