Custom Pet Beds from the Livable Home

After Denver design shop The Livable Home was featured in this month's issue of Real Simple, we checked out their website. They specialize in pet-friendly upholstery, and we were intrigued by their custom-made pet beds (starting at $450). Although that's a lot to spend on your puppy, the custom beds look more like furniture than your typical dog bed, and they're sized to your pet's proportions. Raised off the ground, they make vacuuming underneath easier, and the heavy-duty fabrics resist pet hair.

The shop acknowledges that the exposed wood legs on custom beds can be damaged by pets that are inclined to scratch, so don't fork out the dough if you have a pet with a really destructive side.

The Liveable Home also carries a line of upholstered furniture made to stand up to children, pets, and messy people. According to their site, fabrics are "stain and soil resistant, water repellant or resistant, defy pet by-products and can be easily maintained. Pet hair sits on top of the fabric for quick removal and spot cleaning doesn't show up over time. 80% of our fabrics are odor repellant, a blessing for pet owners and parents of small children."

How do you know the pet will even sleep there? Maybe a dog would, but no self-respecting cat would consider it.

The only way my dog would sleep on it would be if I was sleeping on it, too.

I think it would be more affordable and practical to buy an ottoman for your pet if you are looking for something less petstore esque.

basically, they are calling just that a "pet bed".
