Itchyknee Faux Fur-lined Wall Barrel

070706wallbarrel.jpg
No, this is not a hand-warming muff, but rather a wall barrel (what?) for cats!

Referred to as an "indoor tree branch" sold at Greener Grass Design, we love that it's not your typical indoor climbing tree that takes up a lot of floor and wall space. The barrel is upholstered in cottons, wools, corduroys and designer faux furs, available in brown or black.

The wall barrels come in three sizes for all those different sized cats out there, and cost $70 (S), $140 (M), and $210 (L).

Greener Grass Design also sells a similar floor barrel ($90), but...we're stuck on the concept of furry barrel suspension.

For DIY here's a tip:

Go to Home Depot or any building store and purchase a cement forming tube. These are large diameter (1'-3') cardboard tubes used when pouring cement pillars. Using foam padding (batting is ok but the cat will tend to pull it through the fabric) cover the tube on the inside and outside and then go to town with the upholsterey. The tube will keep the shape and give the whole thing some rigidity.

Julian, great tip. I'd been mulling over what to use as the tube. Do you think the tunnel's attached to the wall with some type of strapping? Thanks.

The visual of my XL cat trying to get onto that -- and stay on it -- just makes me laugh!
