Rattan-Look Pet Goods

2006-07-14-cratekitty.jpg

We're getting the picture. Ever since pet month started we've been reading about how you don't like the look of dog crates or cat litter boxes. We see why, we've been looking and alternatives are not easy to come by.

These rattan (actually resin made to look like rattan) solutions look a little less sterile and a bit more homey, no?

The faux-rattan won't absorb fluids or odors and cleans up easily.

The litter pan cover ($79.99/99.99) is available in two sizes from homevisions.com.

The crate ($149 - 259.) is available in two colors and four sizes at beyondbeds.com.

I have to say, I really haven't understood the vehemence about litter pans around AT (and hiding it under an ottoman? Bwaaaahhha! I have a cat the size of most 8 month old babies--he's not going to be able to get under there!) but that rattan thing is nice. And reasonably priced.

I've been on a similar search for months, and I finally decided on this as the winner. Glad you guys picked it out! Not quite a Kattbank, but it'll do. My cat's probably more the size of a healthy newborn, so hopefully she'll make it!

A solution I had when living in a small studio and didn't want a visible pan or the accompanying odor was to remove the cabinet door under the sink, stick the pan in there (a space not used to store foodstuffs) and then install a "doggie-door" in the cabinet door. This way the pan was out of sight, the cat could still enter and exit as he pleased and the otherwise dead space was well used.

I kept baking soda and some potpouri under there and of ocurse made sure to scoop it regularly and never once did I have any trouble.
