We got an email from Jessica this week. She volunteers for a local organization and wrote to tell us about what they do:
"Chicago Canine Rescue is a group that rescues and adopts out dogs (and even a few cats). They get most of their animals from other rescues and shelters right before they're put to sleep.
This means that CCR has a whole lot of pit bull mixes (since many shelters won't even try to adopt them out) and animals that have costly medical conditions. CCR doesn't have a shelter proper and all their animals are either in foster homes (preferred) or being boarded at local vets or groomers."
"CCR may be unique in the fact that if you decide to foster an animal, they'll pay for everything: food, toys, vet visits, and they even send someone to your house to walk the dog if you can't be home. They just ask that you provide love, take notes on the pets behavior for possible adoption, and arrange for the pet to make it out to adoption events.
This is where I come in. Since about December, I've been volunteering every so often as a dog handler at their weekend events. They set up shop at Pets Marts, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, other pet shops and for 3 hours, allow people to come meet the animals."
