Virtual Pets: Nintendogs

The fastest-selling Nintendo DS game to date is Nintendogs, a virtual pet title. Six million of these were sold as of March 2006. That's a lot of digital cuteness.

The Nintendogs development team won an "excellence prize" at the 2005 Japan Media Arts Festival for designing a "new and entertaining experience."

2006-07-19-nintendogs2.jpgYou begin the game by choosing a breed, selecting one puppy (of three), taking the pet home and giving it a name. The touch-screen interface is used to pet, train and groom your puppy. The built-in microphone allows voice commands (not a part of the game to try on the "L"...) and the wireless capability of the DS means your puppy can "play" with a friend's puppy somewhere in cyberspace.

We have yet to try Nintendogs but with 6 million of these out there, we figure some of you must have a Nintendog. We want the scoop...what is it like to have a virtual pet? Is it as addictive as Animal Crossing?

while home at christmastime, i played my sister's DS and she, of course, had nintendogs. a lil' husky puppy, a rotweiler, and a chihuahua. pretty addictive, i've gotta say - though i didn't realize at first that you have to tap on the poop with the stylus to pick it up as you're walking your pup. haha.
mostly all you do is walk the pups - you clean up after them, sometimes you run into someone else walking their pups and you have to restrain your pup or let him/her interact with a friendly pup... sometimes the dog finds things while out on a walk, you can buy your dog silly collars (spiked, bejeweled, etc.)

anyway, woah, that was a long bit.
i'd recommend a DS (and now the DS lite!) regardless, and nintendogs is one game certainly worth owning if your apartment is dog-free.

I have not had the chance to play nintendogs yet, however a ton of my swimmers keep suggesting I play. They do say they are addicting but entertaining.
