Reader Small Space Solution: Christopher's Murphy Bed

custom01030609.jpgWe love to see setups like this: a home office, sitting area, dining area, kitchen and bedroom all in one not-so-big space. Christopher wrote to us last year when doing research on adding a Murphy Bed to his Chicago apartment. He went ahead ...

custom2030609.jpg...with the job, going with a custom install. He sent us a few follow-up photos of the completed project. It looks fantastic and the murphy bed cabinet works seamlessly with the kitchen cabinetry. We love how the kitchen bar/counter and wine storage is integrated into the bed structure - aside from being a smart use of space, it makes the entire unit feel cohesive, clean and sleek.

Thanks for the look at your small space solution, Christopher!

that looks fantastic. is that black glass on the kitchen table to tie in with the counters?

Great job on this project. I agree that the consistency of cabinet work is spot on. The only thing I may have done differently would be to somehow incorporate the desk into the Murphy Bed. It would save a little more space, but might also be a hassle if you have to move things off the desk space every night. I guess it boils down to personal preference...

Great job!

That looks fabulous! There's even a little wine cubby under the desk/bar.

If there were bookshelves built into both ends of the bar, I would totally wet myself with joy.

Wow! It's looks amazing! And I love how they have used every inch of that small space! As someone who has had to put her office in her bedroom, it's rough, but you do what you have to do!

That looks awesome. I like the matching wood work throughout the entirety of the space. And anytime you can lay in bed and pour yourself a glass of wine is always tops.

The after picture looks great, but it would have been more helpful if both pictures were taken from the same angle. Really heard to see where everything fits in.
