Amanda's Tangerine Dream Bedroom
Room for Color - International #10

thumbs up

Name: Amanda
Location: Unionville, Canada
Type of Home: Family Home

Color Inspiration: My use of color was inspired by my desire to have a bright room that was completely original and would set it apart from all the other rooms I'd seen. My old room was completely uncoordinated, messy, and bland...

Give Amanda a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

What Rhymes With Orange?

Color Inspiration continued:...and I was ready for a change. I wanted a room that displayed my personality and would make people say 'wow' when they saw it.

My color scheme all started with my duvet cover, which I purchased at Ikea. I selected colors from there that I wanted to use throughout my room. It's been 3 years since I painted and I never find the color distracting or too bold. The color definitely affects my mood in the best way possible - I can never be in a bad mood in here.

Colors Used:
The paint is Benjamin Moore and the colors are Tangerine Dream (orange) and Citrus Blast (yellow).

Color Tip:
Don't be afraid to take risks! Have fun with color and be original. The possibilities of what you can do are endless.

This may be my favorite entry yet. There's such a great balance between the brights and whites. The neatness and orderliness of the room also balances against the intense color. Too much stuff crammed into a room this color would make my head spin, but the clean lines of the furniture, the crisp lines of the framed art, even the absence of curtains (which I think works really well here), all make this feel very clean and not overwhelming. I also like the pops of blue and green here and there. PS, I love that your TV is actually on.

Love the color choices, love that Vampire Diaries is on the TV (guilty pleasure alert). The thing i don't love? That papasan chair! Head to a few flea markets, find a really cute chair that will do the room justice. :)

Love the orange, it would be hard to be in a bad mood in here.

But LTangie, that's not Vampire Diaries, that's Lost

Is that a picture of Gabriel Byrne? The middle small square photo visible in #1, 4, and 5. If so, nice! I love the room too.

Wow..the ULTIMATE room for this contest about colour...for the most part, I haven't felt as though many of the submissions are "colourful" enough...a painted wall of colour and nothing else to jump out are not my expectations, but your room is one of the best of all I've seen ......so much colour and not only that, it all is matched well to create the semblance of calm and joy...super job....a definite thumbs up!

I'm pretty fond of papasan chairs, myself! And I agree with mei-ling on loving the injection of green into the scheme.

I love your room so much, and the papasan chair looks so inviting. Also, Lost on your tv makes it so much better.

It's a lovely cheerful room! I would never have thought to put those bedcovers with the wall colours, but it really works! Great theme.

My personal rule is to never use orange walls with natural oak floors. orange-toned-overload.

kinda has a college-dorm-room vibe.

also where the heck is unionville?

Yup, it is a bedroom belonging to a teenage girl.

@jac7890 - Unionville is just outside of Toronto. I don't know why I'm bothering to respond to somebody so impolite, however.

@tmoore - I'm 22.
