Chloe's Chartreuse Kitchen
Room for Color - North #9

thumbs up

Name: Chloe
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Type of Home: Single Family Home

Color Inspiration: When buying a new home, you want to personalize spaces you will be spending a majority of your time in. For me, that was the kitchen, so with principally paint I stretched my décor dollar...

Food Looks Better With Color

Color Inspiration continued: ...to the max. Chartreuse is synonymous with energy and I wanted a kitchen with lots of color to bring a zing to my cooking and energize me through the evening. The black chalkboard backsplash is also practical and dramatic, while the light grey painted countertop keeps the space fresh. The refrigerator is located in the quirky pantry space adjoining the kitchen.

Colors Used: Sherwin Williams:
Independent Gold 6401
Red Bay 6321
Repose Grey 7015
and Lowes' Black Chalkboard paint

Color Tip: Don't chicken out; use the colors you want. Painting isn't difficult or overly expensive.

Chartreuse with red and black. Not your everyday color combo -- esp. for a kitchen -- but it works here, beautifully! A brave and smart choice.

Love the chalkboard backsplash, also.

Finally, of all the alluring word combos in the English language, I think that, aside from "you've won the lottery," I like "quirky pantry space" the best! I'd love to see it (and the rest of your house, too)!!!

What a fun yellow kitchen! So few cabinet companies offer yellow finishes these days. You either have to go custom or paint old cabinets a new color.

Here are a few thoughts on other great kitchen color ideas:

I'm a big fan of your color scheme, though I might have gone with a slightly darker shade of grey to contrast more with the chartreuse and would probably have chosen different curtains or none at all. You've got a great source of natural light and a really pretty multi-pane window. Why cover it so? Is the view unpleasant? What sort of lighting do you have in the kitchen? Seems like the wrong bulb (like a too-dim or cool fluorescent) could make even the prettiest yellow/green nightmarish. Please don't read my comments as overly negative - again, I think your use of chartreuse is really wonderful (and unexpected) and I think you're awesome for painting your counters!
