Type of Home: Rental Apartment

Color Inspiration: Every summer, my mother works in her garden for hours a day. I have such fond memories of working with her out there and learning how to maintain a beautiful space. The color I chose is called Greenfield and...

Green Gardens

Color Inspiration continued:...it reminds me of plants and being outside. I'm especially excited to have my kitchen this color come the winter months because let's face it, Chicago is known for the rain and snow and I need some reminder that spring is on the way!

Color Used: Greenfield/Sherwin Williams/SW6439

Color Tip: My opinion isn't backed with too much experience, this being my first apartment, and first time painting but when I was selecting a color to paint my kitchen, I opened my wardrobe to see what color popped out at me. Green. In the case of this room, I decided to go with green not only because it brings back memories of summers at home but because it makes me feel calm and relaxed, and is a color that I like to wear often. It brings out my eyes and is a color that looks great on me and what is there not to like about that?

Very cute. I like the checkerboard in the cabinet.

Even though this is entry is about color, I noticed your refrigerator door. It appears to open the wrong way. Does it annoy you? Most refrigerators can be changed to open the other way. You'd need a few tools, but nothing major to make the change.

Color is surprising because you just don't see this color in kitchens, but it's a pleasant surprise. Nice!

Green is the color of money...I wouldn't be surprised if your kitchen was located in the Wealth sector of your apartment and you intuitively felt this was the color your kitchen wanted to be.

I like the lining in the cabinets too. But overall, this is just a kitchen that's been painted green. That's it.

For entry into a colour contest, I don't see any colour jumping out, just dark painted walls.

Such fun kitchens! I like the names they have chosen, like "Lofty Intentions" just as much as I like the finished kitchens. Clever and creative - way to go.

Great green!! I think using a color that reminds you of happy memories is wonderful! A kitchen that puts you in a good mood is more likely to entice you in to do some cooking. I probably wouldn't have switched the frige door either because I'm right handed and it feels more natural to me to have it the way you do. Great first endeavor!!

I hope that in a few years you will have outgrown decorating with wine bottles and discover some more interesting colors. Of course, I panted the inside of my first home pepto-pink and accessorized with old plates, so I really should keep my mouth shut.
