Glyn's Cure for Winter
Room for Color - North #12

thumbs up

Name: Glyn
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Type of Home: Rented condo

Color Inspiration: As a renter, there isn't always a lot of flexibility and i was infinitely tired of white walls. Upon walking into this unit about three months ago I was instantly drawn to the bright metallic color everywhere, a perk on top of the panoramic view....

Give Glyn a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Cure for Winter

Color Inspiration continued:They were the exact bold color choices I was looking for to make a sterile loft feel a little bit more cozy and home-y.

For me, color has always been a given in my surroundings - i love neutrals, but also crave color and sunlight always, and discovered that i need them more than ever when the weather in chicago turns dreary and freezing. I'm all about bright, clean lines, simplicity, and summer. With the walls as inspiration, i brought in pieces to continue the mood...knick knacks collected from travels i've kept through the years being the packrat I am, mixed with pillows and neutral furniture pieces. As a recent grad on a budget, nearly all of the big pieces are craigslist finds, the couch being one of my favorites. Besides the bedrooms, the apartment is basically just one big room, so i had to figure out how to deal with that. Definitely know more things will help bring the room together...rugs, curtains, and more great art, for instance -- all in time. I'm the type who will rearrange a room a hundred times (already once since moving), so who knows what the future will bring.

Colors Used: Metallic blue, metallic yellow-gold...don't know the exact names?

Color Tip: Take risks and break rules...its all about your own style and surrounding yourself with colors that make everyday life a little bit better.

The colors are very nice and the view is STUNNING. Personally, I would have tidied up (especially table surfaces) and done a little staging (is that a bed pillow on the sofa?) before taking pictures to share with an international audience.

i agree. the space is great, but the stuff in it is kinda dorm. it has it's place, but it's kinda like sneakers w/ a formal gown.

the view is amazing though. & that dark blue color is really pretty. & i like the cement walls.

the view took my breath away

like the pops of color, the blue wall is hard to read - it looks different in each of the three pics. you have a bit too much furniture (it seems, i've certainly never stood in your home) the papasan doesn't fit and you seem to have two dining tables plus a counter and deck furniture

LOVE the pure eclectic-ness of the entire space (not too formulated!)

It's a crime to put a shelving unit in front of the window when you have a view like that.

Nice.

I disagree with all of the other comments about staging. It is a breath of fresh air to see that you actually LIVE in the space rather than just decorate it.

I love your colors. The space is not messy; it's lived-in. Everything does not have to be so perfect all the time. We are supposed to judging the use of color here. I would live on that couch all night watching that view (jealousy X 10!!!).

"lived in," okay, I can buy that. But so is an unmade bed and dirty dishes. If presenting something for a contest, might one make a greater effort buttoning down?

And not sure I get the "inspiration" derived from "clean lines," "bright metallic color everywhere" & a drive to acquire "more great art." I don't see any examples of any of this in the photos.

I like the colors and the "messiness" is okay as long as it's not "dirty" messy. BTW, this place is on 1720 S. Michigan, right? I know that view and I know someone with the same tier unit.

I like the space and the view and I think it has a lot of potential that it is not brought up
