Jeffrey's Colorful Supporting Cast
Room for Color - North #5

thumbs up

Name: Jeffrey
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Type of Home: single family home

Color Inspiration: My home color choices are inspired by my friends who are artists. Having acquired a significant number of their best works over the years, I've selected paint colors and furnishings to complement their vibrant colors and engaging subjects.

Give Jeffrey a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Rich Neutrals

Color Inspiration continued: Everyone's home design tells a story. In mine, the colorful leading roles are played by paintings, prints, and sculpture. Wall colors, flooring, and furniture tones are supporting cast members by design.

Colors Used: I've chosen rich Benjamin Moore neutrals throughout the home.
Living room walls: HC-777, Alexandria Beige
Stairway accent wall: 2114-10, Bittersweet Chocolate
Ceilings: OC-27, Balboa Mist

Color Tip: Whatever choice you make, go all in. People may not like your choice, but if it has integrity to it, they can at least appreciate your commitment. Straddling the fence and doing a little of this and a little of that is much more difficult to pull off well.

Where did you get the Brown chair next to the fireplace?

I normally don't care much for neutrals, but this is definitely the right way to do it.

The space is cohesive and the furniture gorgeous but I wish there was less grey. The rug, the couch, the chair... feels too matchy matchy.

I'm pretty sure the chair by the fireplace is from Room & Board.

This would work better for me if the rug was blue. I can imagine it being really crisp & pleasing (to my personal taste) then. For now, in combination with the greyish seatig, I'm left with an impression of grey gloom washing over all the good stuff.

I was wondering about the chair next to the fireplace as well. Exactly what I've been looking for. Great space!

That exact rug in an off-white would be smashing in this space! Great photos and a very sleek design.

Thanks for the comments.

The couch is actually a dark teal, not grey. Not sure why the color didn't come through in the photo. Same with the rug as it is blue with hints of gold.

The chair next to the fireplace is the Room & Board Grace chair from a few years back. I think they still make something like it.

I love the openness and the intimate seating areas for many different conversations. The colors -- the art -- all make me want to move in.

Warm and peaceful. A nice contrast to the usual "Simpsons" approach to color I've seen here.

Not in the "colorful" category... sorry

Okay, I'm not in love with this room but I think the main reason is too much ceiling in the photos. I'm the first to complain about too many detail shots but a few simple crops would've made a much bigger impact. Plus, a shot of the couch with the multiple pieces above would've been a nice boost of color for your set.

Not a fan of MCM or neutrals but I really like this, plus, it's great to see someone supporting local artists (even if they are your friends).

Don't be selfish with a Home Tour, I'm curious to see what you've done with the rest of your house!

Sarrazak: Greatpoint about the cropping. I should have thought of that.

The house is actually on the market and you can see the full range of photos here: http://www.flockrealty.com. Select houses and scroll down to 1321 Sturm.

This submission I think is better suited for a design magazine than a COLOR contest..lovely and beautiful room, but not really COLORFUL.
