Melissa's 'Vintage Modern Romance' Bedroom
Room for Color - North #17

thumbs up

Name: Melissa
Location: Elk River, Minnesota
Type of Home: Single Family

Color Inspiration: My husband, Jake, really pushed for a blue room. I wasn't sure at first, but then I found this beautiful Alphonse Mucha print called "The Moon". I fell in love with the rich blues...

Give Melissa a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Vintage-Modern Romance

Color Inspiration continued:...mixed with the circular star pattern on the women's blanket. The piece gives off a warm-romantic feeling, and it ended up being the perfect starting point for decorating our first bedroom as a married couple.

Colors Used: The two main colors used in the bedroom (and as references for other pieces) were:
Wall Color:
Relaxed & Cozy-Soft Azure, 70BG, by Glidden

Lamp Shade Color:
Indoor/Outdoor-Ivy Leaf, Gloss, by Krylon

Color Tip: Find a piece of art, furniture or decor that excites you, and gradually shop for other pieces that compliment it.

Very very beautiful. I would love to know where you found your vanity, I've been looking for something similar and having quite a difficult time!

I love this. What are the shelves above your bed? Are they Lack shelves from IKEA? or maybe something more high-end? I'm looking for storage ideas for my itsy-bitsy bedroom and was wondering how sturdy those shelves are for books and stuff (especially since, if they fall, they'll be on your head).

Thanks!

Half my personality likes it simple; the other likes it bohemian. Your room makes my bohemian half cry out in primal joy!

I really wish i could see that wall color more. It looks more like a dark teal than a navy, which are both fantastic. Such a cozy cave!

Ah, I just love this room to bits. Like another entry, the colours and (especially in this case) furnishings remind me so much of a bedroom I decorated once. I would love to transform the walls of my current bedroom with some divinely rich colour but I've only just persuaded the landlady to let me paint the kitchen wall green and I haven't even got the paint for that project yet! A prussian blue bedroom will have to wait...

This is a great color. My husband too is a fan of blue and this color would be great in his office. I second the question, where did you get that vanity? That is exactly what I have been looking for!

The is grandma chic done right! I love how you mixed traditional wood tones and patterns with more simple lines and bold rich colours. You can tell that this room was created by adding each element as they happened naturally and not trying to cram some theme or look into the room. great job!

VERY nice work! I agree with TheoJ 100%... I enjoy how naturally effortless everything flows together. Your room is stylish, without being stuffy... and therefore, totally livable! ~ap

just beautiful! I have a deep turquoise room that would benefit from the same color accents that you've used. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

I like it, but I'd be awake all night waiting for those heavy books to fall on my head.

On the other hand, mjs7640, there'd be a certain delicious irony in someone getting brain damage from a complete hardcover set of Twilight novels falling on their head.

BTW that is a great colour.

Jake and I want to thank everyone so so much, for all of your sweet comments AND helping up get through to Round 2! We also thank anyone who votes for us this Wednesday in advance ;) Don't forget about voting for Chris today...my fellow Minnesotan!

*Comforter & matching pillows were indeed from Urban Outfitters
*My Mom found the vanity, dresser & head/foot board at a garage sale when I was in college...I took one look, and could envision them in my future home!
*The book shelves (in Espresso) are from Lowe's, and we had to use anchors to handle the weight (oh - and the shelves are really light weight, so yeah - the Stephanie Meyer books would be the hard-hitters ;)
