Tobi's Midwest Autumn Living Room
Room for Color - North #9

thumbs up

Name: Tobi
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Type of Home: Craftsman Style Single Family Home

Color Inspiration: When we purchased this house, most of the walls were white, save the room in these photos. The house is very large for the two of us, and I wanted to scale it down a bit to feel a little cozier....

Give Tobi a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Midwest Autumn

Color Inspiration continued: In this particular room, I used dark accents, as I liked the deep, golden yellow walls. We also tried to decorate the room in a way that was less modern than the previous owners had, to better match the age and grandeur of the house.

Colors Used: I used reds and greens to compliment the yellow, and to tie the room in with the hallway, dining room, and kitchen colors.

Color Tip: Don't be afraid of paint colors. They can always be painted over if they don't end up working for you. Also, simply changing window treatments and rugs can change the look of the room entirely. Even if you're on a budget, there are fairly inexpensive ways to make huge changes to your space.

I love Craftsman homes. Your house is SO charming! I like the dark stain on the wood trim too.

I have been searching for a colour like this for a long time, I've seen it done beautifully but also seen it done all wrong, does anyone know the name of the colour? do you think a tich more toward brown and orange would be in order? or would that make it too puke-ish? They've done a wonderful job, that colour is well suited to the arts and crafts look, and even Art Nouveau.

The wood in your house is amazing and craftsman homes really do look great with deep rich colours although it's hard to see that in these pictures.
