Barn Conversions

2-11-09barn1.jpg

Built from materials made to withstand the elements, barns can make beautiful and long-lasting homes. They often come equipped with lofty ceilings, wide-plank wood, and impressive landscapes. With so many old barns in the Midwest, we love to see these structures preserved and converted into housing. To inspire you, we've rounded up a few of our favorite American and European barn renovations - just click through the links to learn more about each building...

I lived in a converted barn once and loved it. It's a good use for a building that no longer houses horses or cows.

If I would, I could.

Love the floor in New York state Barn Conversion. (the table too!) I think you could do something else than minimalistic decor though.

I can and I am! I've moved an old barn beam structure (circa 1790's) to a new concrete pad and built my house around it. I've made it through this winter heating only with wood. I've used whatever old barn siding was still in solid shape for some interior walls and the heavy plank barn flooring for everything from kitchen counters to stairs and benches.
