Best of the Fall Colors Contest: The Midwest Finalists 2007

roundupcolor091708.jpgAs we start preparations for this years big color contest, we decided to take a look back at the Midwest entries that were the reader's favorites from last year. We're hoping that they will inspire some great entries this year (the entry form goes up next week!). Representing AT:Chicago, we had one from Chicago, one from Michigan and two from Texas. Jump below to revisit the entries that made it to the final round:

jbb091708.jpgJohn from Royal Oak, Michigan was Entry #8 - John's Bold, Bright Day or Night . John says, "I'm a graphic designer by trade and I love taking what works in print to interior spaces. Color sets the tone from the living room to the bedroom. It is the easiest way to change your space whether you own or rent. Let yourself go maybe save the whites for your sheets. For the price of a couple of bottles of wine you can create a fresh new space."

erin091708.jpg Erin, who lives in Chicago was Entry #17 - Erin's Home of Happiness. Erin's advice: "Go for it! If you have an inkling that a given color might brighten your day, give it a try - it's only paint. I've encouraged almost all of my friends to take this leap. If you can't paint your walls, paint your dresser an outrageous color and build a room around that. "

carmen091708.jpg Carmen of Frisco, Texas was Entry #29 - Carmen's Little Pops of Color. Carmen advises: "If you are afraid to use color boldly, buy your furniture in neutral colors and use only pops of color here and there. If you get bored, change the pillows, add a little paint, and voila- a new room in no time (and very little money)! Dont be afraid to use color; color makes home a happier place! "

jamie091708.jpgJamie of Dallas, Texas was Entry #28 - Jamie's Unorthodox Color Palette. Some advice from Jamie: "Take a look at Munsell Color Theory; it is slightly different than the traditional color wheel and gives a new perspective to color mixing.Use what you like - you ultimately live in the space...paint is inexpensive, so experiment and have fun."

We're looking forward to the entries rolling in starting next week - the Fall Colors contest is one of our favorite times of the year at AT. The entry form will be up next week with all the details - maybe 2008 is the year your place is crowned the most beautiful, colorful home in the world!

Oh my goodness..I am in LOVE with three out of the four homes here (I'll just keep it to myself which one I'm not in love with but Sesame Street "Which one of these is not like the others" comes to mind). I am so very inspired to enter my space this year after doing a little fluffing! Maybe I should have left my living room the teal blue instead of painting it grey....hmmmm

For the this fall's contest, could the form ask entrants to identify the paints that they used? I see great colors, and it would be nice if that info could be readily available. Thanks!
