Pretty good pieces overall, nice lines.
I wish the tables were made of solid stock (and not particle board w/ wood veneer), but then they probably would be pricier.
The dining room chair is made (mostly) of solid wood and it definitely feels more substantial because of it.

I especially like the proportions of the Stockholm leather sofas...deep and wide with room for lots of pillows.

I agree with hessilou. I'd pay more if they were made of solid wood. I wonder if Ikea plans on making a Stockholm desk and bedroom set.

I wish Ikea was closer to home (or not, I'd be there too much).

Those rugs are NEVER in stock. Drives me crazy.

It's so wierd to me when people talk about Ikea furn. and have problems with it for not being solid.... Hello, it's ikea. ALSO these are in the spirit of danish modern pieces and the great majority of them were veneered as well.

Saw a couple of the $199 coffee tables at the Brooklyn Ikea's Scratch & Dent section. What up??

those pillows are really cool looking, but they are made of some weird microfiber-feeling-stuff.. they grossed me out to touch.. so i had to pass.

As far as furniture is concerned, I think it depends on what it is and it's price point. I have the Expidit bookcase and it seems very solid and holds my album collection which just about fills it up BTW.

I have a couple of the Varna, I think it is, laminated table tops, one in white and one in the printed black/brown foil finish. The black/brown finish is showing some wear but it's also my desk and I've had it about 4.5 years or so and so far they have not sagged and actually have held up quite well.

Back in Nov I bought the Klippan sofa, originally the floor sample, got it at the As Is in good shape, only thing was a little cleaining in a few spots (red leather) and snug down the legs which screw onto the bottom of the sofa and it seems very solid for it's $500 price point.

I have heard that you DO need to snug down screws and what not every now and then to keep it nice and tight, just don't over do the tightness or you will strip them out.

Most bookcases from most manufacturers are particle board with a veneer, sometimes a painted foil finish or some such, other times an actual wood veneer.

I have a Danish modern chair that I think is made from solid wood in that it's got carved legs and arms but has an upholstered back and cushions, same for it's matching ottoman so not all will be particleboard and I would wager that for frames that are left exposed thost will be solid wood. The Poang chair uses laminated bent wood for it's frame and they appear to be pretty durable for what they are.

ciddyguy - most of the pieces you're referring to aren't part of the Stockholm collection. But I agree with most of your comments.

We own the rug pictured, and while visually, I love it, we have two cats and it sucks in EVERYTHING almost like static cling, and looks dirty quite easily. It's a tightly woven wool, so things get trapped in the fibers. We're going to be investing in a Dyson Animal soon, so I'm hoping the problem will be resolved with that. This is after owning it for three days, and you can already see some of the crud:

Regarding the Stockholm line itself, I'm generally disappointed with most of it. To me, it doesn't look any nicer, or any more 'high end' than ikea's other lines, and the price point is much too high for what it is, on most items. Our rug was reasonably priced, though.

I don't know about in the US, but in Canada, they tried to market this stuff as 'higher end', 'better quality' and so on... but at the end of the day, a lot of this stuff is still particle board and veneer.

I'm not against Ikea at all, in fact we own several of their pieces, but I think that hey ask too much for what the Stockholm items are made out of. Some of the newer glass decorative pieces in this line are crazy expensive for what they are!

CFYG, I recently bought one of the pet-specific bissels and LOVE IT. lower price than a dyson and it really does an amazing job. great features and even a specific pet brush attachment for the couch and such. i have a dog, but i assume it would be great with pet hair too.
