This trend has been popular for so long that log boxes and bowls are popping up in mainstream retail stores. It began with the lovely Loyal Loot Log Bowls that infiltrated the blogosphere a couple of years ago, and the look has spread to places like West Elm and Target in recent months. With the popularity of rustic modern style right now, we don't think the natural wood wave is over yet...

The one I have from the mid 70's is real wood, not ceramic. It holds little treasures such as found rocks and shells.

I'm currently obsessed with the wood and faux wood phenomenon, though have yet to acquire anything of my own....

The bowls at Target appear to be in the Red Hot Shop, which means they probably aren't in stores; according to the Target site itself, they're also by Loyal Loot.

Retro, but not in a really cool way. JMPO. I do like the huge bowls that are made of really smooth wood though, if you want to find your cat just put one of those bowls on the floor et voila--the cat will be drawn irresistibly to curl up in the bowl.
