Modern Tabletop Finds Under $10

If you're trying to set the table on a budget, our best advice is to keep it simple. Take a classic approach with white plates, basic glassware, and wooden serving bowls. It looks great, and won't cost you too much...

Awesome! This is great for us poor college kids with thousands in debt...I love the looks (and price!!) of the bambu flatware. How's the durability on those?

20 years ago, my husband and I purchased Bauhaus dinnerware from Crate and Barrel, now re-issued as the modern dinnerware shown here. At first Bauhaus was our only set of dishes. Over the years we have collected many more sets in many different styles but this design has stood the test of time.

How about Fishs Eddy? They're priced competitively and carry a mix of vintage and new. They've got basics, colors and quirkiness in abundance.

I bought my white and off-white plates, bowls, everything from them maybe 8 years ago and they are still going strong.

Coming out of the microwave, they are not scalding hot to the touch. I think they will last me a lot more years.

I have all white dishes and mostly white serving pieces (and white napkins, table cloths), but my table always looks so incredibly boring when it's set. I'd love to see some examples of simple/modern table settings that aren't over the top with accessories or overly themed for a particular event/holiday.

This is sound advice. Plain white dishware, in particular, will never go out of style. If you want to add interest, do it with textiles (runners, mats, tablecloths, etc.) and centerpieces.
