Last week, our post on Yankee Candles stirred up some love but also a lot of no-likey. Thanks to your critique, dedicated AT readers, we were able to compile a roundup of your preferred candles and scents. Jump down to see if your favorite made the list!
westlm2 loves Pacifica candles and says: "They last forever and have great up-to-date fragrances." We second this nomination with our love for Pacifica's Mexican Cocoa.
kdear gave us two alternatives: "Aunt Sadie's Bayberry - sooo Christmasly perfect. And the Letter M from Anthropologie. My friends are always making fun of me for having an initial that is completely unrelated to mine, but that scent smells better."
Minyuette agrees with our Sage & Citrus preference but also recommends: "Trapp Candles: Bob's Flower Shop, Vanilla Grapefruit, and Sexy Cinnamon."
Cassis disregards Yankee completely due to the allure of: "Votivo's Island Grapefruit."
laila isn't a fan of Yankee and states: "I'd rather pay the extra and get a really nice soy candle from Bluewick." We're intrigued by their Lemonmusk Soy Candle.
my little apartment doesn't like Yankee's packaging and prefers to keep things things simple with: "Diptyque - Baies."
lizziepeony finds Yankee's scent overpowering: "I much prefer Votivo's Sage or my current- Henri Bendel, Fig."
hannaleighh works at Pier 1 Imports and is taking advantage of the employee discount. "White Thyme is probably my favorite right now and it's a soy candle!"
We couldn't help sneaking one last Yankee in here. HazeL4844 has lots of good things to say about Yankee's own new line of all-natural soy wax candles: "Their new Beanswax line of soy candles has a scent named Cran Slam that is awesome. It'll clear cooking smells out of your kitchen without being to sweet or "fake" smelling. Also, leaving the jar uncapped in a small bathroom works like an air freshener."
Thanks for the wick tips, folks!
I love beeswax candles. I currently get them directly from a beekeeper who makes them. He also sells them at the Greenmarket in Union Square.

anthropologie has some good ones...but i like the bluewick line's "hinoki"...it's not often that i have $38 to drop on a candle though...http://www.bluewick.com/Collection/Bluewick_Hinoki_Collection/Bluewick_Hinoki_Series_-_Sheab/bluewick_hinoki_series_-_sheab.html

Rhubarb, from A&G Merch in Williamsburg.

I once had a candle that smelled like black tea. It was not by Mariage Frères and it was expensive (like $55?). Any one know the name or where to find it?

my absolute favorite is sacred gold from lumiere candle company, a warm, spicy combo of myrrh and vanilla

I also like Henri Bendel, but I prefer the Firewood scent. It is perfect for chilly fall days.
Or Cannabis Santal by Fresh. No, it doesn't smell like weed or Patchouli. It is just a fresh, but warm scent.
Both candles are on the expensive end, but I find that I have these candles far longer because you don't always need to light them to get the scent.

I recently discoved Stella Mare soy candles, I've tried the lilac, gardenia, and fig, varieties. Smell so great, I can't wait to sample the other scents.

I'm a big fan of Waxman's votives in the black rose scent. They're inexpensive, locally made (right here in Chicago) and they make my pink and green apartment the epitome of lady-like fresh without being old lady cloying.

Artemesian Lemongrass by Kobo is my current favorite. I also love the Archipelago candles.

Muji Lemongrass Candles or Aveda Shampure(is that how you spell it?) are my faves! Aveda candles are pricey but fragrant and long lasting.

How about that Gothic Guy that sells ridiculously expensive candles from his beautiful, lush and dark website that plays Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No.1 on an endless loop?
Ah, found it....

Except the music's gone and the site looks a bit changed. Still lovely and dark, still overpriced.
Oh well...back to Z Gallerie.

CarrieLouise, maybe you are thinking of the tea-scented Diptyque candle? I bought a Diptyque candle (Cannelle, which is cinnamon) for my boyfriend's parents over the weekend and paid $55. Here is a link to the Diptyque The candle.

I have to say that Diptyque still makes my favorite candles, but they are expansive. I also like Stella Mare candles. I have few of those at my house and they smell great.
The last one that has joined my candle list recently is Fringe studios. The glassware that they use is also fun.
You can find them here or you can also get their catalog.

Ditto "Trapp Candles: Bob's Flower Shop" -- absolutely fantastic smelling. Their fig scent is very lovely as well.

My favorite candle in the world is the one that the Paris hotel, Hotel Costes sells. I stayed at the lower-cost sister hotel, Hotel Bourg Tibourg (in the Marais), and the Costes candles were burning constantly. The scent is complex and instantly evokes Paris for me. You can buy it online (google it). Unfortunately, it's about 100 US dollars.
