At Renegade, there was a booth that used vintage drawer knobs (like the fabulous ones you can find at Anthropologie) to hang necklaces...super cute idea.

Please be careful about this. I love this tip, as I usually don't wear jewelry I don't see. But my mom had some jewelry stolen recently, and the only reason all the jewelry wasn't stolen was because the remainder was hidden away.

The police recommended hiding the more valuable things and leaving the less valuable or sentimental jewelry out. Leaving nothing out lets the thief know you've hidden it and to go looking for it.

I hate to say this as a downer, because I like having my stuff out too, but please be careful.

That's a good point eaevansmd, and yes, I keep all my fancy stuff out sight. More because I don't use it every day and I don't want it to get banged up, but still.

In St. John's, Newfoundland, there's been a rash of burglaries where the thief enters the home of someone out working in their garden or backyard, locks the backdoors so the homeowner can't get back in, and steals the jewelry quickly! Usually, the victim doesn't know they were robbed until they discover they can't get in through the back door (some of the things they say about Newfoundlanders is true- like, they can be too trusting). Ballsy. Anyhoo, she started doing just as eaevansmd suggested. (Oh, and the 4th photo is mine, and it's only my plastic/ stone/ costume jewelry out- I would never hang anything valuable in the open air!)

Peggy Guggenheim was notorious for displaying her jewelry on her walls than hiding it away in boxes...
...at an exhibit in NYC a number of years ago, I saw her jewelry displayed in a similar manner to the way she did when she was alive - it was so interesting seeing her jewels alongside the handmade chandelier earrings made for her by her friend Alexander Calder.

I have my jewelry up like the first two pics. My peg rack is much bigger but I like the look of that small one. Makes me want to paint mine white.

I have a peg rack like that and have used it for scarves up to now...I think I might hang some necklaces now! Thanks for the idea! (after i paint it from it's current ugly mustard that is! it was hidden away in the closet up to now)
