Well, let's see. First I collected owls (in the late 1960's), then I think it was daisies, then mushrooms, then unicorns, then I realized that theme collecting was a drag and I stopped. I still have a set of three tiny artist-made stoneware owls, one pewter unicorn, a mug I china-painted with daisies, and three hand carved mushrooms, just for nostalgia. Now my collections are more eclectic. My favorite is my pantheon of god and goddess figures from many cultures, many museum replicas, others total kitsch. Including R2-D2.
The next collectible item/animal. I suggest fantasy mermaids... been seeing some of those lately. (NOT Disney.)

I started collecting all white unicorn figurines. The simpler the better. However, having collected owls and deer for years, I'm not too sick of seeing them around. I don't think animals go out of style, but some of the trendy items are a bit too much.
LoriSF, I keep meaning to buy these from her store: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22768334

I went to value village and found they had a TON of little owl figurines, mostly in brass. I grabbed one for $1.99 and spray painted it yellow, and it looks just like the one above.

I am the yearbook adviser at our school. The yearbook goes back to 1896 when it was named The Owl for the great stuffed owl that sat on a shelf in the classroom. Therefore, I collect owls, but stuffed ones, and display them in the classroom. I haven't decided if the owls go with me when I move on or I leave them for the next OWL adviser.

dkzody, take your favorite with you and leave the rest for the next adviser :) I like the idea of the collection growing over the years.

I have an adorable vintage squirrel, all white, that was my grandmothers. But I've been thinking about tracking down some vintage fox themed things since my dog, a shiba inu, looks like a fox and everyone has to tell me that she does.
