Roundup: Planters Under $20

When we posted high and low options for glazed ceramic planters, commenters seemed to want some more inexpensive alternatives, so we thought we'd pull together a roundup of garden planters under the $20 mark. These simple, modern forms are subdued enough to let the plant take center stage...

I have 2 of the crate and barrel eco planters, #10... Love C&B but i would not recommend these, the drainage trays are a joke they dont seem to hold more than a tablespoon or two of water. mine are always overflowing, not over watering as the plants are happy. maybe better for succulents or something that needs less water? im not sure what the plant i have in there is called it was a cutting from a friend, one of those spidery tropical ones that grow off of shoots from another.

these C&B ones look nice too, all under $20.

I love the Mynta line of planters from IKEA. Your thumbnail shows the larger $49 planter, though---tall and narrow. When you click through, it goes to the correct one which is shorter and wider. Both are nice.

The bigger Mynta planters are also a bargain compared to similar sizes and styles in garden shops, but they are at the tail end of their season in the stores and will not be getting more in until next spring. I finally got some this year after lusting for them since they first came out five years ago or more. Eventually they'll discontinue them. (They're very heavy terra cotta made in Vietnam, by the way.)

I have one of the hanging Mynta planters on my front porch and I love it. You can't find as nice a planter for that price.

I almost bought the hanging ones from IKEA, but I was afraid the knot in the rope would come undone and the plant would spill over, and that the ceramic part might fall and break. Obviously, I'm a worst-case-scenario kind of girl. I wonder if you can replace the rope with chain. Is the hole large enough to run a small chain through?
