Manon Juliette Recycled Leather Rugs

manonjuliette-leatherrugs1.jpg

It seemed odd to us at first that leather could be recycled but these leather rugs, by Manon Juliette, show us that not only is it possible, it's also being done with great success. Available in an array of colors, Juliette's rugs show that they are more than just a pretty face.

The rugs were created using leather scraps and offcuts sourced from various factories; the scraps were then bound together without synthetic adherents to form the rugs. They were designed in such a way that their shape can be easily changed if the owner chooses to do so.

The leather rugs come in 14 colors and three different styles: Feliz, Procura Fortuna and Novo Impulso -- with Procura Fortuna and Novo Impulso still in production.

What do you think of these?

I have always wondered, can you vacuum a leather rug the same as a regular rug...?

Such a cool idea!

They look awesome, but I don't understand leather rugs. How/where are they best suited for? Aren't they lumpy/uncomfortable/impractical? And, as deirdre asked, how do you keep them looking as good as they do above?

i think "scrap" would be a better term than "recycled" here. it's not as if these are post-consumer. i still like the idea a lot and glad it's not in the garbage but i think our "re-" vocabulary needs work (not on this site - i mean all around).

I own a carpet cleaning business and this is impossible to clean. Unless you plan on hovering - this is very impractical.

I love the look and the idea but I would find this far from practical in a space with any foot traffic.
