We've heard references to rugs that feel like sweaters under your toes...a great marketing tool or an enthusiastic owner singing the praises of a favorite new rug.
But we just learned that there are actually rugs made from old sweaters; and they are called none other than sweater rugs.
A Massachusetts-based textile designer has been creating these for 15 years from reclaimed sweaters.

I have two of these rugs (neither color listed above). They are made by crispina; http://www.crispina.com/. I have an olive and a mulberry.
They are deliciously thick and easy to clean. They have a casual look, but that worked great for us in our bedroom (the mulberry). The smaller one (olive) is a great work rug for the kitchen. It is comfy to stand on for a long time.

The Crispina rugs are also fabulous for babies -- a marvelous world of texture, color, cushiness, and little sweater pieces that occasionally rise up and can be pulled on for endless delight. (For us, it was an amazing answer to the dilemma of making a room with a marble floor child-friendly.) Crispina also makes gorgeous felted wool blankets for kids and adults. Check out her holiday studio sale in Pittsfield, MA this weekend, December 8 & 9 -- details at crispina.com.
