Blu Dot on Blu Dot

Blu Dot just launched a hometown exhibition (well, St. Paul) with their take on design. Get your taste via a linked Q&A with founders John Christakos and Maurice Blanks, after the jump.

"We were looking for a name around the time that Prince changed his name to a graphic symbol... we were considering just a blue circle without any words, but then realized (we wouldn't) know how to answer the phone if you didn't have any letters."

The show features Blu Dot’s well-loved modernist goods, as well as packaging, models, prototypes and peeks into their process. Which, btw, includes closet design for firms like Crate & Barrel, Target and Home Depot.

How funny that I learned about this here. I live right across the street from the CVA gallery.

I like BluDot - but their minimalist designs are getting rather boring to me...
...I hope that they can move their designs in a more interesting direction.

I'm a big fan of Blu Dot, but I hit up the opening last night and it seems most of their more interesting pieces were left out. I've seen better selections (and more product information, for that matter) in showrooms.
