Design Within Reach Warehouse Sale: Hebron, Kentucky

6-3-08dwr2.jpg

For those who covet modernist furniture, but can't afford it without deep discounts, there are warehouse sales. Design Within Reach's Midwestern warehouse (located in Hebron, Kentucky, just outside of Cincinnati) is having their summer warehouse sale this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We went last year to pick up our 75%-off bed, and while we were there we snapped some photos. Click below for an idea of what to expect if you go...

Discounts reach up to 80 percent off overstock furniture and returned goods. Furniture can't be ordered over the phone - you must be there to buy, and it's first come, first serve. The sale is restocked each morning, and all sales are final.

Can you arrange for shipping there, or do you have to take the items with you?

The Bertoia Chairs were in my pediatrician's office when I was little. Their waiting room was full of them with red, blue and yellow leather thin seat cushions. Crazy how we remember these things.

Ugh...a couple years back they brought the warehouse sales to Chicago in a west suburb. I scored some MAJUH deals. I've been pestering them to do it again in Chicago but no luck.

Anyone have experience with the shipping they have available at the annex sales, cost, reliability, etc? I've been wanting to drive up to the NJ store from northern VA during one of the sales to get a Bantam sofa, but have been hesitant to make the trip without knowing more. The shipper is an outside vendor, so the annex employees weren't able to answer any specific questions.

When we visited the Annex in Seacaucus the overall condition of the selection sucked. Gouges, rips, stains, missing veneer everywhere. The Hebron outlet looks much, much better stocked but I would definitely make an in-person visit.

I can't make it Friday or Saturday, but I'm planning on making the 90 minute drive there on Sunday. I've been to two before and both times I went on the first day, so I'm not sure what to expect on the last day of the sale.
