For my family, Sunday turned into a fun outing on a beautiful day (76 degrees and sunny in Chicago in August?!): wandering outside and out of the city at the Grayslake flea market, one of the Chicago Reader's selections. We went looking for furniture or the always-welcome surprising find or decorative object, but instead we bought a lovely fig tree. We hope to scour a few other markets on the Reader's list in the coming months (we found Grayslake to be just so-so). A few shots from our day in Grayslake below:

Anyone know of any flea markets like this in the DC/MD/VA area? I miss true flea markets like the ones I lived in when I lived down south. I would spend hours EVERY weekend just trolling the local flea markets, searching through mountains of "junk". Makes my heart flutter just thinking about it.
